Privacy and cookies
In short: TeamCal stores only what it needs to run the team's calendar. It does not track you, does not show advertising, and does not sell or share any information.
Who is responsible
Dan Knudsen, who built TeamCal and hosts it. The team's Admins decide who can use it. See Ownership and security.
What is stored
- Your sign-in: your name, work email, access level, and your password, stored as a secure one-way hash that nobody, including administrators, can read.
- Calendar events, and the names of the people who added or last changed them.
- When you last used TeamCal, so Owners and Admins can see who is active.
- Failed sign-in attempts by internet address, kept for one day to prevent password guessing.
- Contact form messages: the name, email address and message you send, the sign-in you used (if any), and the internet address it came from, kept so it can be answered and to prevent abuse. Only Admins can read them.
- Backups of the calendar, kept on the server for about a week so mistakes can be undone.
How it is used
Only to run TeamCal: signing you in, showing who changed what, sending password emails, answering contact form messages, and keeping backups. Nothing is used for advertising or profiling, and nothing is sold or shared.
Who can see it
People with a TeamCal sign-in can see the events. Owners and Admins can see the list of people and their email addresses. Only Admins can see contact form messages. Your private calendar feed address lets your calendar app read the events; keep it private, and replace it at any time from My account.
Outside services
TeamCal's server fetches the forecast, weather alerts and radar pictures from public weather services, so those services see only the server, never the people using the dashboard. The street map under the radar, and Windy's map when it is used as the backup radar, load directly in the dashboard's browser, as any online map would, and see that computer's internet address and the map area shown. Emails are sent through the domain's own mail service (Google Workspace for sepacam.com, owned by Dan Knudsen), or the hosting company's mail server if that is not set up. No calendar data is sent to any of these services. Ownership and security lists every outside connection and what it receives.
Cookies
TeamCal uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in (and to protect the sign-in and contact forms). It holds a random code, not your details, and is not used for tracking or advertising. It is cleared when you sign out.
Your browser also stores a few preferences on your own device, such as light or dark theme, hidden event types, and your last view on a phone. These never leave your device. The phone app feature stores copies of the page's styles and scripts so it opens quickly.
There are no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. Windy's map, when it is shown as the backup radar, may set its own cookies under its own policy.
Security
Connections are encrypted, passwords are hashed, emailed links work once and expire, and repeated incorrect passwords are slowed down. Changing your password signs out your other devices.
Your choices
You can ask an Owner or Admin to correct your name or email, or to remove your sign-in. When a person is removed, the events they added can be kept for the team or deleted. For anything else about your information, use the contact form.
