Using TeamCal
The wall display dashboard
The dashboard is designed for a wall monitor in your operations center. It shows the weather radar, the local time and other locations, a 7-day forecast, and the team calendar on a single screen. It is the site's front page, so anyone signed in can open it.
The forecast
The strip under the radar shows the current temperature, conditions, humidity, dew point and wind, then the next 7 days with each day's high, low and chance of rain. Click or tap it to open the detailed forecast:
- Right now: feels-like temperature, humidity, dew point, wind and gusts, pressure, visibility and cloud cover, from the nearest weather station.
- Next 24 hours: the temperature, sky and chance of rain hour by hour.
- Next 7 days: each day's high and low, with sunrise, sunset, humidity, wind, dew point, chance of precipitation, cloud cover and the National Weather Service's written forecast. Use Show all details or click a day to open it.
Press Close or Esc to go back. If nobody touches it, the detailed forecast closes on its own after about a minute, so the wall display always returns to the dashboard.
Setting up a wall display
- On the computer connected to the monitor, open TeamCal and sign in with the wall display (team) sign-in. Leave Keep me signed in ticked.
- Switch the browser to full screen (usually the F11 key).
- No further steps are needed. The display stays signed in while it is on, refreshes itself, and reloads once a night.
The team sign-in details are managed by your Owners and Admins.
What it does automatically
- The calendar returns to today and the usual view after a few minutes without use.
- The radar recenters a few minutes after someone moves it.
- The detailed forecast closes after about a minute without use.
- When weather alerts are turned on and one is active, a red alerts panel replaces the last day of the Week view (or a strip runs across the radar in the other views), and it disappears when the alert ends.
- A line at the bottom of the clock panel always says where alerts stand: green No weather alerts · checked 3:42 PM, orange when alerts are active, and amber Weather alerts unavailable when the weather service cannot be reached. Amber means "unknown", not "all clear".
- If the wall monitor gets signed out (for example after its password is changed), a large red This screen is signed out message covers the dashboard until someone signs in again.
- If any part hasn't refreshed for a while (for example, during an internet outage), a banner appears so nobody relies on out-of-date information.
- Changes to the dashboard settings reach the screen within a minute or two.
Adding events from the wall display
Because the wall display sign-in is shared, it is view-only by default. An Admin can allow it to add events (never change or delete them). If you sign in on the dashboard with your own email instead, you can do anything your level allows.
The New event form, and an event's details, open over the whole dashboard so the form is never cut off by the calendar panel. Closing it (Save, Cancel or the ×) brings the dashboard back; a form left untouched for a few minutes closes by itself.
Your menu on the dashboard
The round letter in the corner of the clock opens a menu with Full Calendar, My account, Help, the theme swatches and Sign out.
Color themes
The dashboard has three looks: Standard (your team's dashboard color), and two darker themes, Midnight and Graphite. Each sign-in keeps its own choice. Pick one from the small swatches in the dashboard menu, or under My account → My dashboard theme. The wall monitor's theme belongs to the team login, so choose it while the monitor is signed in.
